"Oh my beloved daughter, if it were given to you to live in this frightful time, you would die of sorrow."

The Story and Message

Our Lady of Good Success to

Mother Mariana, March 1634

"The lamp which burns before the alter, and which you saw go out, has several meanings:

The first meaning is that at the end of the nineteenth century and for a good part of the twentieth century, various heresies will spread and the precious light of faith will go out, due to the complete corruption of morals.

The second meaning is that this community of mine (Convent of the Immaculate Conception) will submerge in a sea of unfathomable and unspeakable bitterness.

The third meaning is that in these times the atmosphere will be saturated with the spirit of impurity, which like an unclean sea, will spread through the streets and public places with an astounding liberty.

The fourth meaning is that in these fateful times childhood innocence will scarcely be found and in this way vocations to the priesthood will gradually disappear ..... priests will neglect their sacred duty ... then the Church will suffer a dark night from the lack of a prelate and father to watch over the clergy.

The fifth meaning addresses the carelessness and neglect of persons possessing wealth who will view with indifference the Church being oppressed without using their wealth for the destruction of evil and restoration of the faith... while allowing the name of God to be wiped out and adhering to the spirit of evil."

The history surrounding these 17th century apparitions in Quito, Ecuador, began in Spain around 1606.

Two friars traveling to Rome seeking Papal approval for the Order of Minims, encountered an unexpected and furious storm.  Looking for shelter, they spotted a mysterious light coming from a distant cave.  They immediately sought refuge there only to find a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, surrounded by a glowing light and heavenly fragrance of flowers.

Despite their later efforts, the friars were unable to locate anyone who knew the statue's origin or claimed ownership, so they took it on their travels to Rome where they met with Pope Paul V. He listened to their story and was instantly moved by their experience and the exquisite statue. He immediately venerated Our Lady's image while granting the friars full approval of their new Order of Minims.

The Pope then blessed the statue and christened her “Our Lady of Good Success” encouraging the spread of this new devotion throughout Christendom.

When the friars returned to Spain, the image was eventually placed in the Royal Hospital of Madrid where many miracles were granted.  In fact, so many miracles were linked to the blessed statue it caused King Philip II to construct the Sanctuary of the Puerto del Sol where it is found today.

Through Space and Time

In 1576, by the command of the King of Spain, Phillip II, five professed sisters were sent to Quito, Ecuador to found the Royal Monastery of the Immaculate Conception. They were accompanied by a 13-year old girl, Mariana Francisca y Berriochoa - the niece of the Mother Superior who from a very early age, was graced with visits from Our Lord, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the saints, and archangels.

Two years later, Mariana was fully received into her community and accepted the name Mariana de Jesus Torres.

The events and apparitions that followed involving this victim soul are very unique in the life of the Church.  Our Lady's messages to Mother Mariana not only addressed her immediate conditions but intentionally highlighted a future age, especially that of our own.

See the full story below or access our Additional Resources to learn Mother Mariana's encounters with the Blessed Virgin and her prophetic message for our times.

The prophecies of Our Lady of Good Success highlight the sadness in our world today. They foretell with great accuracy the loss of innocence among children,  devaluation of the sacraments,  loss of priestly vocations and religious life, ongoing persecution of devout priests, disinterest in defending the faith and the indifference of the people of God.

All is not lost.

During her encounters with Mother Mariana, Our Lady exulted the role of religious communities as an oasis among the filth, a beacon of light thwarting the wrath we're due  "They will remain to sustain the Church and work with valiant and selfless commitment to the salvation of souls."

She also promised her help and protection to those who propagate the devotion to her with the title of Our Lady of Good Success.  "The consoling title of Good Success ... will be the support and safeguard of the faith in the presence of the complete corruption of the twentieth century." This devotion would obtain mercy and pardon for all sinners who have recourse to her with a contrite heart since she is the Mother of Mercy.

And finally, when all seems lost and the black cloud of evil nearly extinguishes the light of faith, "This, then, will mark the arrival of my hour, when I in a marvelous way, will dethrone the proud and cursed Satan, trampling him under my feet and fettering him in the infernal abyss. Thus, the Church and Country will be finally free of his cruel tyranny."

Through this devotional box ministry, we entrust to our Lady of Good Success our prayers for families, especially children, priests, religious men and women and people in holy and secular authority and put forth sincere effort to make known her message throughout the world.

Our Lady of Good Success, pray for us!

"The message of Our Lady of Good Success, is one of great hope. Let us then, ask her for the courage and confidence to remain faithful in all the trials that may come in the days ahead. Above all, let us pray for the hastening of the day when she will triumph over the forces of evil and bring about the “happy restoration” of the Church and society."
